Most people use iTunes because that fascist corporation known as Apple uses only proprietary technologies and doesn't allow their devices to be used with media players/sync software other than the one they give you.

Add that to the fact the iPod doesn't work as a USB mass storage device like many other mp3 players, so once again you are tethered to a proprietary cable, and can't access what's on the device without the iTunes.

But what do "the people", er, lemmings, care, they got a cool, hip device that everyone else has and it only does 2/3 of what others out on the market do.

Fashion and slick marketing trumps actual functionality I suppose.

How come Apple is a "fascist corperation"? Success? Maybe if Jobs and the rest of his hippie friends were still working out of a garage they would be heros. I guess success makes one a fascist. What they do is called successful bussiness.

"Fashion and slick marketing", "does only 2/3 of other devices"----are we talking about Apple or obama?

An open source firm ware for the device?

That's mighty swell, thanks for pointing it out.

I suppose that'd void your warranty though, and put you in the realm of open source community based "support" - I can handle it, but doubt many would be comfortable with that.

Can't see if it says it enables mass storage on the iPod though.

I love the fact that players like SanDisk's and Creative's can be plugged in using a regular ole mini USB and can be used just like a thumb drive.

So does WinAmp if you install those plugins...
